SRPV Supported Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Week 2019
South Reading Patient Voice actively supported the NHS's Type2 Diabetes Prevention Week from 1st to 7th April 2019. We manned our stall and spoke to hundreds of people, handing out leaflets on diabetes awareness and on the NHS's "Healthier You" program, which is operated in Berkshire West and available to those at risk of Type 2 Diabetes, by referral by a GP. Diabetes UK, the diabetes charity offers a "Know Your Risk" assessment. Our stall was in the lobby of Morrison's supermarket on Tuesday, 2nd April.
Our stall was in the Town Centre on Thursday morning and lunch time.
Our stall was at South Reading Community Centre on Friday morning.
We were surprised by the number of people that we spoke to that did have Type 2 Diabetes - there are 3.8 million in England. All that we spoke to were aware of their nine annual tests. We were also surprised to meet some people who seemed resigned to getting Type 2 Diabetes as they had several immediate family members or friends with the condition. This is something that could be changed.
